My PLN

On Friday, October 10th, 2014 I have the opportunity to attend the Building Futures professional development at Brock University's Hamilton Campus.
We were able to select which workshops we are going to attend that day, and were then provided with our agenda via e-mail.

My workshop selections are as follows:
  1. Assessment and Evaluation for Improved Student Learning in Ontario Schools: Policy and Implementation
  2. Literacy Development in Ontario: A Support for Primary/Junior Language Teachers
  3. Student Well-Being and Positive Mental Health: Creating Supportive Classrooms
It is my hope that this professional development day will enrich my knowledge in a variety of areas.

Firstly, I chose to attend the Assessment and Evaluation for Improved Student Learning in Ontario Schools workshop as I feel that any teacher, or teacher candidate needs to refresh their knowledge in the area of assessment and evaluation. The ways in which assessments can be completed, for of, for and as learning is ever changing, and having a new fresh look at ways to enrich the assessment program is always beneficial for the teacher, and for the students.

I also chose to attend the Literacy Development in Ontario: A Support for Primary/Junior Language Teachers as I believe that literacy is an essential component in all learning. Just today we were speaking about how communication, both written and orally, plays an enormous role in math class. Subsequently, I feel that attending this session will enrich my ability to develop my literacy programs within my junior classrooms.

Lastly, I chose to attend the Student Well-Being and Positive Mental Health: Creating Supportive Classrooms workshop as I know that school involves more than just learning. As a teacher, I am always concerned with how my students are made to feel while they are in my class. I hope that this workshop will provide me with some new ideas and insights on how to provide the best environment I can to ensure my students all around health.
